Shelley Stuart has a board game collection that’s outgrown three bookshelves!
I came into gaming during college, when I cut my gaming teeth on all-night staples like Titan and Advanced Civilization.
I moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in screenwriting and found a group of gaming folks to spend the next ten years’ of Saturdays learning a host of adult games, some even before the English-language translations came out. My library of games grew from a handful to three bookshelves, and continues to grow.
I tend to favor games that allow multiple winning strategies and avoid those with a “rich-get-richer” mechanic. Some of my staples include Carcassonne, Ticket to Ride (and variants), Advanced Civilization and any game that’s won the Spiel des Jares.
I still enjoy the marathon game session, but the shorter board games now fit my limited time better. Continuing the game tradition, I’ve introduced my oldest to her first board game, Hi-Ho-Cherrio. I hope to move her up to Machiavelli any day now!
Oh, and the writing career? Still pursuing it!
