Quick verdict
Hasbro Family Game Night will appeal to kids, families and pretty much anyone who is a fan of classic games like Yahtzee or the Battleship board game. It contains compact versions of 7 different board games, and all come with several new variations in gameplay.
What’s it about?
Do the games Battleship, Boggle, Connect Four, Scrabble, Sorry!, Sorry! Sliders and Yahtzee sound familiar? Well now they’re all available digitally and in their full-glory with Hasbro Family Game Night.
This game is great because you can play by yourself, with computers, with friends and even with people online! All of the games feature both traditional rules and some exciting new takes on how to play.
In Yahtzee, my two favorite new game modes include Block Out and Reverse Yahtzee. Block Out entails scoring in high-earning categories before your opponent can, while in Reverse Yahtzee, it is actually the lowest score that you’re shooting for.
Boggle features a neat Word Hunt option, Connect Four can have Power Chips, and you can opt for power-up weapons if you would like in Battleship. Scrabble hosts a new Bridge Builder game where the aim is to go straight across the board.
All of the games are easy to navigate and graphically gorgeous. Mr. Potato Head accompanies you on your journeys and is quite the clown.
Pros and cons
+ Each player is given their own bedroom to decorate and display game awards. You choose a theme like spy or princess and can customize the individual poster and furniture choices from there.
+ One side of your room is devoted to displaying all of the wondrous trophies you can earn from playing the different board games.
+ Xbox 360 users can net up to 1400G and 70 achievements from this enterprise.
– If you don’t buy it in the Wii format, you will have to purchase each board game individually for the other console.
The verdict
Hasbro Family Game Night is a “winner” for most people that are frequenting a site called Boardgame Beast. I hope they come out with a sequel containing more classic board games!
