Carcassonne: Inns and Cathedrals

The first of many expansions to the original Carcassonne game introduces chances to score big bonus points.

The Cathedral squares: these four-sided city pieces give a 50 per cent bonus, IF you complete the city you add them to! Incomplete cities with a Cathedral score zero.

The Inn squares: exactly the same concept, except for roads. A completed road with an inn beside it scores 2 points per tile, rather than one.

The most interesting addition to the gameplay is the large follower Meeple. This chunky guy is worth double when placed on a road, city or field and can help you steal control of an incomplete feature more easily.

Six players can now play, because the box contains an entire set of Meeples as well as the large followers for all the original colours.

For some, the large follower introduced in Carcassonne: Inns and Cathedrals unbalances the game. But you can always play without using them. We like the extra dimension this expansion gives to the game.
