Quick verdict

The Game of Life board game is absolutely one of my most favorite games. I’ve played this game since I was a kid and of all the games I played, this was one game I’d always go back to. The best thing about this game is that it if fun to play weather you have only 2 people or 6 people to play. It takes a bit of time to set up, but it is very much worth it.

The game and gameplay

In the middle there is a spin wheel, which you spin to determine how many spaces to move. The spin wheel is a fun alternative to throwing dice. There are also a few building and hills that need to be put on the board to give it that 3D effect.

You start by choosing a path, either a career path or college path. You will lose money at first going along the college path, but usually you will get a better job at the end of your study period.

You can also buy insurance, which costs money up front, but could help you out later in the game. The object of The Game of Life is quite simple. You travel though the path of life, get married, maybe have no kids, or a car load of kids. There are various special events that you have to negotiate which can have a profound outcome on your bottom line.

In the end the person who has the most money wins the game.

Pros and cons

The Game of Life board game is fun to play with a large or small group. The game is never the same, and you can always make it different by choosing the career path or college path.

Critical decisions such as if you should purchase insurance can also affect your game. The rest of it is really luck. If you’re lucky enough to spin the right numbers, you can be the first to finish and get a bonus at the end.

The only con is that if you happened to not have children, you lose a lot of bonus money at the end of the game. I never thought that was fair: a lot of the times when I’ve played, it seemed like I’d never get kids.

The other con might be set up time and keeping track of money, insurance and making sure your pegs don’t fall out of the car when you are moving it across the board.

The verdict

Some games become classics and with good reason. The test of time leaves many board games at the wayside, but The Game of Life board game continues to convert new fans today and that says more about it than anything else could.
