Quick verdict

Combine the most anticipated time of the year and everybody’s favorite word game and you’ve got a a surefire hit. Holiday Scrabble is played just like the every one of the other Scrabble games, only with an additional festive twist.

The game and gameplay

The theme is wonderfully carried all throughout the game. The wood letter tiles are painted either green or red, and are kept organized in a mini holiday stocking bag.

The addition of Gift Tag cards gives the players directives for a custom game play and a chance to double and triple their scores. Bonus points are given if players can come up with words related to the holidays. The game will be a nice addition to the family’s traditional activities during the Holidays.

Theme is nicely rendered, from the box to the components.

Christmas special rules are a nice extra touch.

Probably won’t get played with after New Year’s Eve… at least, not until next year!

Scrabble can bring out the worst in people. It’s not a good choice of Christmas party games, because not everybody is patient enough to wait for people to analyze the board for minutes at a time. If you are bad at Scrabble, it can make you feel inferior, and that is not conducive to a fun Christmas games night.

The Verdict

Holiday Scrabble is about as good as it gets for Scrabble fans at Yule. However, it will only be a good investment if you are organized enough to look after it for the years to come, as it won’t be used much beyond the holiday season.
