What's happened to Boggle?

What's happened to Boggle?
I stopped by two Ottawa stores this week to pick up several games of Boggle to take to Ghana, where I work as a volunteer with children's libraries.
The youngsters absolutely adore the game and it has proven to be an excellent tool for early-learners to develop spelling and literacy skills.
However... I found that the only set available is a glitzy version, wrapped in a ton of plastic and requiring batteries. Whatever happened to those easy to transport/use/pay for earlier versions?
We don't need all that plastic. We can rarely find batteries in the developing world, let alone pay for them. And the set has become much too expensive, around $19.00, without tax. (F.y.i. I picked up a game of Scrabble for $9.50, tax included).
Think this over and please return to the far better earlier version. Thank you.
Editor's note: You can pick up older versions of Boggle on Amazon or eBay (see below).
