Puzzle Quest combines the best of match three games, trading card game-style strategies and the best of roleplaying games with stunning graphics and sound and a great story. It's an unbeatable buy!
What's it about?
I could bore you with the usual RPG nonsense of "boy pleases hero father and serves his queen", but to be honest, this game is simply about matching three symbols in a strategic way.
That simplifies the case too much, though. Being able to match three symbols blindly won't get you very far. Here's why.
Puzzle Quest plays like a regular RPG in that you explore the land by moving from location to location in search of things to do (quests). When you arrive at a destination, you can click to get quests, go shopping and so on.
Any time you meet an enemy, a battle screen appears. Here's where the match three gameplay comes into its own, combined with Yugioh-style strategy and regular RPG elements.

For example, you can choose to match three red, yellow, purple or green mana. Each tops up a meter and you can use it to cast spells and use other abilities which help you or hinder or hurt your opponent.
Or you could match three gold to add to your cash, which can be spent in shops later, assuming you survive to spend it! Match three skulls and you damage your enemy. All the time, the baddies are working hard to defeat you in the same manner and the good news (from a playability point of view, at least) is that the AI is very sophisticated. You'll get a good fight, even early in the game.
Completing quests awards you experience points and you'll have the opportunity to level up and improve your abilities, just like a regular RPG.
Puzzle Quest is a big game, with loads of potential for replaying as different character classes.
