The game and gameplay
Jewel Bash consists of four, Match 3-type mini-games and has a touch screen stylus. The modes include Jewel Bash, Drop It, Pairs and Extreme.
Jewel Bash is your classic swapping pursuit; however, it demands quite a lot from you in terms of score for being on such a little console. You simply touch gems to switch them and form lines of three or more. Rubies cannot be traded diagonally, and you have just 3 minutes to try and swap as many pieces as possible.
Jewel Bash is the only one of the four games you can earn “badges” on. I put badges in quotes because they're not really badges, at least not the ones people familiar with Club Pogo will recognize.
Accomplishing almost insurmountable high scores gives you a code that merely colors in a picture on your Jewel Bash Pocket Pogo page online. In my opinion, it's not worth stressing yourself out trying to rack up a high score merely to fill in these photos (of which you can already view in black and white).
Drop It is a cross between Connect Four and Match 3. A random stone will appear and start shifting across the top of the screen, and you must decide where to drop it by holding down on a column. You're trying to create groups of 3+ and clear out the entire grid.
Pairs is like Pogo's online balloon game, Poppit. In this jewel quest, the full board is already established, and the minimum number of units needed to have a group disappear is only 2. As you pop identical collections, the ones resting above will drop down and possibly make it so that you can form more groups. You want to try and extinguish as many shapes as possible in this one.
Extreme follows the same rules as Jewel Bash, except it starts with blocks and continues to add one anytime you form a mate near an existing block. The game is over when you can no longer make any more moves.
