Quick verdict
Ah, Peggle. This is one of the top games that I’ve downloaded on a whim. I hope that after playing it, you can join me in saying that this is one of the best arcade-style games. Ever.
What's it about?
Don’t let the cutesy characters and sunshine and rainbows fool you - this is not a kids’ game.
The lovable personas of Bjorn the Unicorn, Kat Tut the Egyptian Cat, Splork the Alien and Claude the Lobster (to name a few) – plus the over-the-top Beethoven effect when you win - only add to Peggle’s charm.

A basic Peggle level pits you as one of the ten characters, taking aim and ready to fire at the arranged maze of blue and orange balls. Position your cursor carefully, then sit back and watch as your ball falls Plinko-style onto the pegs below.
The object in Adventure mode is to eliminate all of the orange pegs to pass the level, but you only have ten balls to do it in.

Pros and cons
+ Free balls can be awarded for having a shot score a certain number of points and/or landing in the scrolling bucket below
+ Nifty bonus points are awarded for crazy-good shots including: Long Shot, Lucky Bounce, Mad Skillz and Extreme Slide
+ You can save Instant Replays for all those crazy shots and amuse yourself later by watching them
+ Detailed statistics are shown at the end of each level to include your number of shots, amount of free balls, percentage of pegs cleared, and style shot total
+
Beautiful custom artwork can be seen in the background of every level
+ Each character that you play as has his own superpower. You hit one of two green pegs in the level to initiate it. My absolute favorite is Renfield the Jack-o’-Lantern’s “spooky ball”, which is basically a continuation of your shot as the ball falls off the bottom of the screen, then appears again at the top for one more time through
+ A Duel mode exists to go up against the computer or friends. Put your Peggle skills to the test!
+ The game has high replay value. Not only do you get 55 levels in Adventure mode that you can play again and again for high scores, but a whopping 75 separate Challenge levels as well.
+ Peggle has won numerous awards such as Best Downloadable Game of 2007, Top 100 Video Games of All Time (#40), and Casual Game of the Year. Rightfully so!
+ Available for the Mac as well
- Unless you’re a mathematically genius and can fully understand angles and whatnot, some of the special Challenges can prove to be very challenging indeed (scoring 750,000 points on ONE level, anyone?)

The verdict
The Peggle game is pretty much perfect as far as PC games go. It’s so addicting that I’ve fashioned my own stuffed animal of one of the characters (guess who!) and cannot wait for the day it comes out for the Xbox 360 and Nintendo DS (both March 2009).
