Quick verdict

A time management game involving shifting cars around in a parking lot? That doesn’t sound fun. But it is!

What’s it about?

The tomboy you play as is named Karma (game developers can’t seem to resist naming their stars something pathetically punny, I know). Karma hails from Donutville, but learns that she’s inherited some property in DinerTown; specifically, a parking lot.

Our good friend Flo from Diner Dash games is quick to intercede and convince Karma not to sell off her unappealing birthright.

There’s been a real problem with parking lately in DinerTown, so Flo gets Karma to open her own valet service.

Karma focuses on five areas that have troubled parking in give Parking Dash, like at a wedding and the beach. A basic level has Karma hop in a customer’s car, find an empty spot (they’re limited), and try to color combo it.

Owners dropping vehicles off appear to the left, while the ones coming back to pick up their automobiles are more towards the right. The drivers who are dropping off all come with little clock estimates above their heads of how long they’ll be.

It’s best to park their cars accordingly, with the ones out for a day of errands in the back of the lot and the quick trips toward the front.

Most of the time you do not want to fill all of the spaces in your lot even if you have customers waiting. This is because you’ll often have to maneuver one car to get to another, especially if you’re keeping up with your color coding.

Both sets of customers will

grow impatient if you’re not managing a fast coming and going balance (pay attention to the waning smiles that can turn into downright nasty grimaces). People who end up getting P.O.ed because you wasted their time will nearly run Karma over on the way out and cost you points.

Adding to the challenge of Parking Dash are oddly-shaped cars, space-blocking obstacles like leaves and snow, vehicles that can be washed before being returned, aggressive passenger dogs, reserved parking spots and car alarms going off.

Upgrades lend a hand and are things such as patience-producing pastries and car lifts.

The goal, like usual, is to meet or surpass the amount of revenue required for the level.

Pros and cons

+ Parking Dash contains cute graphics, animations, and sounds.

+ This game is addicting! It’s creative, smart, and fresh and a welcome change for DASH enthusiasts.

+ Most of the drivers are characters from Diner Dash and Wedding Dash, which is just awesome. You’ll even see Flo stop by on occasion!

+ Each driver has a unique car. Some examples include: an oldsmobile, a limo, a sports car, and a Chinese parade float!

+ Color combos go up to a maximum multiplication of five instead of the usual times four.

+ Color coding is not overwritten when you move a parked car to another space, which is good.

+ It has 50 levels that are re-playable, so you can go back and try to get an Expert score on them all.

- The game doesn’t allow you to cancel your chain of commands, so plan carefully!

- Navigating between levels produces an irritating, screechy sound effect. For me it’s kind of like nails scraping on a chalkboard, but with tires.

The verdict

If you like tile sliding games or are getting kind of burnout with Diner Dash, come give Parking Dash a test drive. It’s a new way to work your mental muscle that will have you feeling like you’re driving off into the sunset by the end.
