Monopoply Downtown consists of 2 rounds of Tetris-like maneuvering. It's a puzzle game with the Monopoly brand "sold" to it. You can play for some real (not Monopoly!) money.
What's it about?
Mr. Monopoly has become Bob the Builder. Instead of selling properties, he is now constructing them, and it's your duty to plan the architecture.
You have to build around existing structures within the 5 sets, incorporating the new installments in like a puzzle. Bricks can be flipped like Tetris pieces, and you're ideally trying to get them all to work perfectly.If you can completely fill in a city grid with buildings, a property bonus is awarded. Bear in mind that there are no single unit pieces, so try not to create holes when placing materials or you'll fall short of your property bonus.
A side way to score high in this game is to wait for green pieces to place over floating houses within the grids. If you can do this 4 times, a hotel option becomes available for even MORE points!
Pros and cons
+ Your brick queue only gives you pieces that can actually fit your current grid progress, which is nice. This may still set you in a bind, though, if you have 3 spaces to cover and are only given a 2-piece (thus causing a hole).
+ Chance and Community Chest point bonuses appear on the boards.
+ You get a free $200 in score for finishing the first level (it’s like passing GO).
- Pieces automatically empty into the refuse bin and debit your score if you don't utilize them fast enough.
The verdict
Monopoly Downtown is a clever and quick twist on Tetris. If you like puzzle games or Monopoly, try it out for free or for cash!
