Bejeweled is one of the original 'crown jewels' of so-called casual gaming. This game has been around a long time and it shows, but it's just as playable as ever.
What's it about?
This is a simple match three game, but fiendishly addictive! The screen is filled with gems of all shapes and colours. Your task is to line up three in a row, horizontally or vertically, by swapping just one gem with one other gem.
Let's say a yellow gem in one column is next to two yellow gems in the next column. To line them up, you simply switch the yellow gem on its own for the other gem beneath the two yellow ones.
Now all three gems disappear and the gap they leave behind is filled by more gems randomly dropping in from the top of the screen.
The fun bit is when you begin building combos. If you look above and see a way to line up more coloured jewels, or four or more of the same colour, you can score hefty points. Then it's down to luck; as more drop in from the top, more combos can occur.
There are two game styles in the original (free) Bejeweled game: normal and time trial. Both modes are similar, but time trial is way more stressful. To complete a level, you must fill a bar at the bottom of the screen. The more combos you put together, the faster the bar fills.
In normal mode, you have all the time in the world to make your moves. In time trial, the bar begins to empty as you think and soon you'll be fighting against the clock to make more combos.

Pros and cons
+ Very addictive gameplay, fast and furious in time trial and still challenging in normal mode.
+ Nice, cheerful graphics; obviously showing its age now, but still bright and fun to look at.
