While visiting her grandma in her old hometown, Flo discovers many of her favorite places are in shambles. It comes as no surprise that she decides to make it her personal responsibility to get these businesses back on track using her waitressing skills.
What’s it about?
The essence of Diner Dash is still (and probably always will be) the same; the storylines are more of a side note.
You may notice, though, that the levels are getting harder, and the graphics are more gorgeous than ever.
The basic areas of this game (zoo, baseball park, disco, museum, and amusement park) are fabulous, and the numerous additional venues available for download are perhaps even more fabulous.
Some of the biggest innovations with this sequel include creating your own (not a Flo lookalike) waiter, getting to design and play your own diner, and the opportunity for multi-player competition online (of which I’ve tried and find pretty fun).
These aspects only work with PCs, however, and you need to have a good Internet connection to get the full benefit of this game (I’ll assume you do, being that you’re on this lovely site and all).

Pros and cons
+ Design your own little piece of Diner Dash by personalizing a waiter and restaurant.
+ Play not only in your diner but others around the world.
+ Purchase upgrades for your personal restaurant and themed clothes for your service person with meta-transactions.
+ Additional restaurant downloads come out on a regular basis and are what I like best about Hometown Hero. Over a dozen have been made so far, and they relate to things such as holidays and storybook themes. New eateries are only $4.99 for ten levels, plus a bonus Expert Level.
+ A new customer type or two shows up in each of the downloadable restaurants you purchase (e.g., vampires at the Crypt Café and Egyptian ladies at Pharaoh’s Feast). Sometimes these customers are familiar faces simply fit for the theme.
+ You get a huge map of restaurants in a town that is constantly expanding. Hometown Hero contains the usual 50 levels for Storymode, plus an Expert Level for each and Endless mode. 14 other diners (that’s over 140 levels!) are currently available for purchase using an easy online format.
+ More things start to go on in the background as you progress through the levels of a locale (animals are added at the zoo, for example). These added touches are fun to look for and are often cute.
+ Playfirst offers 7 levels of this game for free and also an option to play online.

Click to order extra restaurants and episodes from PlayFirst!
+ Medals for completing certain restaurants/goals show up in your Playfirst account, if that’s your type of thing.
- The free Flo’s Closet gets boring and ugly after awhile. The clothes available at the Store are really cute, but add up!
- I’m thinking Playfirst might hold out on making a Diner Dash 5 and instead just keep expanding the hometown until it’s a freakin’ metropolis. It’d be nice to buy 50 levels all at once again sometime.
The verdict
The newest edition to the Diner Dash series is the best yet! Flo is yawning with her big mouth and rolling her eyes more than ever in-between customers, though, so be on the lookout for a nervous breakdown on her part.
