If you're an eco warrior, love sea creatures and enjoy money-making games, then the Deep Sea Tycoon games will have you bubbling with excitement. Everybody else will probably float past without a second glance.
What's it about?
You must open and populate an undersea park of sorts.
For once, you have a true ulterior motive. Your park has the dual purpose of preserving endangered species and raising money for eco charities, which is a nice touch from the game designers: so many games are just about "getting rich" in a virtual world.
As with most Tycoon games, you have to build structures and manage problems. In the Deep Sea Tycoon game 2, you must breed and feed undersea creatures, from turtles to dolphins and more exotic animals.

Doing so attracts scuba tourists, who lavish money on your park for the chance to take photos, buy snacks and gifts and do the tourist thing.
Beyond the underwater setting, this is otherwise a fairly routine Tycoon game, with the usual challenges and frustrations, secrets and achievements to unlock and so on.

Pros and cons
+ Environment and characters are well detailed and pretty, without pushing most people's PC hardware to its limits.
+ Cool green message and theme. Animals you are preserving always seem a little grateful, somehow!
+ Nice variety of animals and structures to play with.
- Kind of dull. Honestly. And I love Tycoon games.
- "Unborn" animals in their breeders look like they're dead and floating around in formaldehyde.
The verdict
The Deep Sea Tycoon game 2 left me cold. I liked the eco-friendly scenario: more games should explore stealth teaching through gameplay. But that's the only really remarkable thing about this game. Everything else is average.
