County Fair is a game in the vein of the classic Rollercoaster Tycoon. It's a fun distraction, but fails to be quite detailed enough to be called a true great.
What's it about?
You are managing a County Fair (well, duh!). Long before the days of the theme park, travelling fairs moved from state to state, peddling thrills, cheap food and naff prizes.
Each level of the County Fair game sets you specific goals. Usually there's a financial element, but you also have targeted rides to build. Not all are available from the beginning. Some are unlocked when you build earlier rides.
You need to hire staff, including engineers, nurses, cleaners and security, advertise the fair, change ticket prices (cheapskate fair charges entry AND per-go!) and the price of food and side shows.
Periodically things go wrong. Inspectors find fault and fine your fair, people get hurt on the rides, or complain about litter. You simply click the various icons to despatch the correct staff, but this element of the game rarely becomes ultra-stressful.

Pros and cons
+ Neat graphics, some good sound FX and music (though the music does become annoying after a short while)
+ Good, tough challenges that will begin to test your micro-management ability as the levels progress
+ Great theme -- who doesn't love being a carnie?
- Just not quite enough meat here to keep you playing and replaying. Should have allowed for more 'tarting up' options for your County Fair; game-themed decoration, or flowers and plants, or wandering entertainers
- Probably won't be one you come back to once you've completed the main challenges
The verdict
The County Fair game download is a worthwhile one. It will appeal to people not yet ready for the "full Monty" of a hugely complex micro-management Tycoon game.
