Need a Great Birthday Party Game For Teenagers, and Need it NOW?!
Surly, sulky, a maelstrom of hormones... and that's just their parents! Occupying teens at a party can be a very tricky deal to pull off. Any of the choices below offer value and high quality gameplay, and most are very affordable.
The nice thing about board games is, you can always reuse them for yesrs on end. Good choices play well in any size group, and will be playable with the parents, cousins and other family and friend groups, of mixed ages, so you get full use from your investment.
Here, in no particular order, are some top choices of teen party games.
Scattergories (2-6 Players)
You need to think on your feet to win at Scattergories. It's a great game for people with word power, but even so, the pressure can really mount when that nasty timer is running out, and you know it's going to SNAP! at any moment.
Roll the die to pick a letter, and now you have two minutes to write an answer to each category on your card that begins with the letter (example, CAPITAL CITIES, FLOWERS, A PET). Score a bonus if you can "chain" multiple words together with the same letter (example, "stainless steel spoon" for KITCHEN ITEMS and the letter S). Loads of fun, and less formal than most, as there is no central board, so you can sit around in the living room. A great birthday party game for teenagers, or addition to your summer cottage game collection.
Guesstures (any number of players)
It's charades on fast-forward! Similar to many TV gameshows that have used this format, where you get clues and must act them out to your team mates as quickly as possible. A nice pop-up version is available, or an electronic screen to quickly deliver the clues to the acting player. Fun.
Apples to Apples (4-10 players)
Like most fun party games, there is nothing complex about this award-winning card-based board game. You are dealt red and green apples. Each red apple has an adjective on it. Players choose which red adjective best suits the word on the green apple card in each round. The winner keeps the green card. Scoop enough green apples to win. Easy to learn, and sure to spark lots of funny debate!
Dicecapades (2-6 players)
Not a game for parents who get headaches easily, this game comes with more than 100 dice! Your teens will be rocking and rolling and laughing like crazy as they attempt to outscore one another. Shake, rattle and roll, all right...
