Bejewled Twist is a remarkable expansion on the original game. It's fresh, fun and very addictive. There's so much more game here than the first two.
What's it about?
Just like the original Bejeweled and Bejeweled 2 games, you have to line up three or more of the same colour gems to make them disappear.
The literal twist on the concept is, you have a cursor which covers a 2x2 square of gems. Inside the cursor is a circle. Click to twist the contents of the circle 90 degrees clockwise.
Your thinking has to change completely from the other games. It's suddenly not so simple to move one lone gem to the middle of two on the same row.
The route to huge scores is suddenly open to you with the Chain Meter bonus multiplier. Keep consistently creating matches of three without missing one and you add a bar to the multiplier. Fill up the bar and your score has the multiplier added.
I managed to get the bar up to 10x on Zen mode, but it did take a long time! A Fruit gem is your award if you max it out.
Miss one and your current bar is emptied, miss another and it drops down to the previous multiplier level.
Match four gems of the same colour and you get a Flame gem, similar to Bejeweled 2 in that it explodes when matched. Five in a row gives you a Lightning gem, which "zaps" the gems all around it and up and across the screen when matched.
New additions to the game include Coal, which cannot be matched, but can be destroyed using explosive Flame or Lightning gems, Locks which can't be twisted, but are still coloured and able to be matched and coloured bombs. These start at 20 and each time you twist, they count down towards zero. You have to complete a mini game to progress if a bomb explodes... Fail and it's game over.

As if all this were not enough, there's a bonus match meter. The meter gives you instructions on which four colours to match next. Get them all done in order and you get the bonus.
There are FOUR modes in Bejewled Twist. Zen Mode is the best to begin with, because you are going to have to take some time to understand the twisting function. Classic mode is the same as before, you have to fill a match bar to progress.
Blitz mode gives you five minutes to match as many gems as possible, while Challenge mode sets tasks for you to complete, similar to Puzzle mode in Bejeweled 2. The latter two must be unlocked by hitting targets in Zen and Classic modes.

Pros and cons
+ A really different game rather than just an obvious sequel. Quite a brave move and it pays off.
+ Beautiful visuals and sound.
+ Lots and lots of gameplay. It's more a thinking player's Bejeweled, not a super-fast game. This will definitely suit people whose hand-eye co-ordination is not as razor sharp as others. However...
- Some will find the slower pace off-putting, especially if you come from Bejeweled and enjoy the arcade pace.
- Going back to the start when you "die" is frustrating.
The verdict
Bejeweled Twist is a true innovation over the original. Some may find it a bit too Zen, but puzzle fans who value strategy over speed will adore it. Play Bejeweled 2 tournaments and win REAL CASH!
